Imperialism is the polcy of industrialized nations
taking over less developed nations for the purpose of
increasing the econominc political, military, and social influence.
This created a need for the industrial nations to expand there industries
like to make more supplies. Natural resources to run the machines in the factories
and raw materials to produce the goods. Doing this helps protect colonies and shipping
new sources of cheap labor to produce goods and new markets to sell products.
Today their is much resentment towards the former colonial powers.
World war was spawned by by greed as nations competed for land and market.
Major cause of imperialism in the 19th century was the growth of industrial revolution. And also included economic motives, nationalism, balance of power, and white man's burden.
Economic Motives
The industrial revolution created an insatiable demand for raw materials and new markets.
Nationalism
European nations wanted to demonstrate their power and prestige to the world.
Balance of Power
European nations were forced to acquire new colonies to achieve a balance with their neighbors and competitors.
White Man's Burden
The Europeans’ sense of superiority made them feel obligated to bring their version of civilization to areas they considered uncivilized.
European forces rule
Strong European nations forced their rule on weaker countries by killing, demanding gold and goods, and taking over their natural resources. The main contrubution to them forcing their rule was superior technology.
Views of Europeans and those subjugated
Europeans gave goods built schools hospitals etc, but ultimately forcing the spread of religion made them feel superior. Those subjagated felt upset because they were forced follow a religion different than their own. In the end uprising and revolt started.
